[Dutch East India Company's 1602 IPO And The Birth Of The Modern Stock Market] On March 20, 1602, The Dutch East India Company (VOC) Launched The First IPO, Opening Share Ownership To All Residents With No Minimum Investment And Allowing Shares To Be Traded, Pioneering The Modern Stock Market. During August Of The Same Year, The IPO Raised 3,674,945 Guilders From 1,143 Investors, Including Neeltgen Cornelis, A Maid Who Invested 100 Guilders. Trading Initially Occurred At Locations Including The New Bridge, The Hendrick De Keyser Exchange, And Dam Square.
