EUR/CAD remains under sustained selling pressure on Tuesday, extending its decline for a fifth consecutive session to trade around 1.6080. The Canadian Dollar continues to outperform as escalating tensions between the United States and Iran drive Oil prices higher, while the Euro faces renewed concerns over the economic consequences of expensive energy.
WTI crude has advanced for a second straight session and is trading around $83.30 per barrel. Higher Oil prices typically provide support to the Canadian Dollar given Canada's position as a major crude exporter, and that relationship is currently giving the Loonie a clear advantage over the Euro.
The opposite is true for the Eurozone. Europe remains heavily exposed to imported energy, meaning a prolonged Oil shock could simultaneously weaken economic activity and revive inflationary pressures.
Those inflation concerns are already feeding into interest-rate expectations. Deutsche Bank noted that markets are now pricing around a 90% probability of an ECB rate increase in September, up from roughly 85% on Friday. The hawkish repricing is providing some underlying support to the Euro, but it has not been enough to overcome the strength of the commodity-linked Canadian Dollar.
Oil's rally has gained further momentum after Iran reportedly ruled out negotiations with US President Donald Trump. Iranian officials have indicated that Tehran could wait until the current US presidential term ends in January 2029 before reconsidering negotiations, further reducing expectations for a near-term diplomatic breakthrough.

Technical AnalysisEUR/CAD Falls Toward 1.6080 as Middle East Tensions Support CAD_1

EUR/CAD continues to lean decisively to the downside, with the 4-hour chart showing little evidence that the current selling cycle has run its course. Since topping around 1.6240, the cross has steadily surrendered ground, producing a succession of lower peaks and lower troughs while breaking through several previously reliable support levels. Price is now hovering near 1.6080, keeping bearish momentum firmly intact.
Of particular importance is the 1.6090–1.6100 region. Having previously served as a floor, this area has now been breached and could become a ceiling on any recovery attempt. A rebound into this zone followed by renewed rejection would strengthen the case for another leg lower. Further resistance is found around 1.6135–1.6145, where sellers would likely become increasingly active should the recovery extend.
Looking lower, the recent floor around 1.6060 provides the next test for sellers. Clearing this level would leave relatively limited technical support before 1.6030, while the larger objective remains the 1.6000–1.6010 region. Apart from its importance as a previous demand area, the psychological significance of 1.6000 could make it an attractive destination for the current bearish move.
For now, the path of least resistance remains lower. Short-lived rebounds are possible following the speed of the recent decline, but these would likely be viewed as corrective while EUR/CAD remains capped beneath 1.6100–1.6140. A clean break through 1.6060 would add further conviction to the bearish scenario and place the 1.6000 handle firmly within reach.
